We've started on our electric guitars and are using them to learn all sorts of things. Today we had a lesson about guitar finishes and techniques. These electrics will give us a chance to get some hands-on practice with that.
Before we get to that, though, we had to enlarge the cavity where the neck attaches so that there would be room to account for the additional thickness of the lacquer we're about to apply. And we have sanded the body and the neck to 180 grit. The blue tape applied to the fretboard keeps the lacquer off of the fretboard. We all attached these hangers to the body and separate ones to the necks, and the guitars are hanging up and waiting for their turn in the spray booth, which should happen tomorrow. This will include spraying several coats, as well as learning how to do a sunburst. Now, I don't tend to like sunbursts, but they are very common and it's good to learn how to do it. We'll be spraying with acetone based nitrocellulose lacquer, in a fancy heated system.

These pictures really help tell the story of guitar building. Without them I don't think I would know what you are talking about. So I appreciate.
