Boxing Day

Sorry for the delayed posts... was away from the computer over the weekend and am catching up now...
Friday was Boxing Day... meaning we boxed up the guitars, gluing the tops and backs and sides all together. This process is a bit more complicated than it might seem, as you have to get all of those braces and notches lined up just right. This took quite a bit of tweaking... widening a notch here, shaving a little more off a brace there... but eventually it all worked.
You see that there is a jack inside the guitar body that is pressing outward on the sides so that they are held steady in the right position. This is removed through the soundhole after the body is glued up. So it is very important that it is assembled with the wingnuts in the center so you can reach them when it is time to loosen and take out the jack.
I have to admit that this part was pretty exciting... and taking it out of the mold was like hatching an egg or something. The guitar body now looks like a guitar body and not a bunch of slabs and sticks. WAY cool...

Otter, congratulations on closing in the box. Whether guitar or mandolin, this is so exciting. Looking forward to seeing what you use for perfling and binding, and end graft.
Keep up the great work!
